On 8 April 2017, BMSS celebrated her 49th Speech and Prize-Giving Day. The theme for this year was ‘Together-A New Beginning’. The school was privileged to have Mr Goh Kia Hong, Chairman of our School Advisory Committee, as the Guest of Honour for the event. The event began with a fanfare of the Aesthetic Elective Programme Percussion Group welcoming our guest through the rhythmic drumbeat and percussion instruments.
With the blessings of good weather, the parade showcased the strengths of our uniformed groups. It comprised of NCC as the Guard of Honour contingent with 4 supporting contingents from the SJAB, Scouts, NCDCC and NPCC. The NCC Precision Drill Squad, which came in 3rd place in the west district competition, showcased their marvellous skills in handling their rifles with high precision.
The VIP Entourage then proceeded to our newly completed Heritage Space and the school was honoured to have Mr Goh officiating its opening. The student leaders guided the guests on a short tour of the space and introduced the exhibits that captured our school’s rich heritage and values.
The celebration continued in the hall with the Principal’s address which was followed by the Guest of Honour’s address. This year, we had the honour of having our former Principals, Mr Sim Chong Boon and Mr Simen Lourds officiating the prize- giving ceremony, along with our current Principal and Guest of Honour. It was really a morning of celebration and joyous occasion as a merged school.
The Concert Band, Choir and the Hip Hop and Bollywood dancers from the Sec 2 Aesthetics Programme then enthralled the audience with their impressive performances. At the end of the event, the guests, parents and students were invited to a reception at the Mother Tongue Language Homezone as well as the canteen.
