In March 2017, Mrs Lim Guek Lee (HOD/MTL), Ms Yeo Xing Wen, Mr Tan Tua Choon, Mdm Qin Zhen Zhen and Mr Lim Chun Leong led a team of 31 students for an immersion programme with Jiangnan Middle School (JNMS) at Wuxi, China. The objectives of the Twinning Programme are to provide an opportunity for students to learn about the teaching and learning environment in China and to allow them to develop a better understanding of China’s history and culture. This programme also aims to develop students’ self-reliance, independence, adaptability, and inculcate team spirit, tolerance and cooperation amongst them. Our students had the opportunity to experience homestays at the local students’ homes, which was one of the highlights of the Twinning Programme. Many of our students experienced the warm hospitality of the Chinese families and enjoyed their stay at their buddies’ houses. This year, students from our school’s basketball team were also amongst the students who participated in the programme. This is the second year our basketball team players played with JNMS basketball players. The aim is to provide a platform for both schools’teachers and students to exchange skills and knowledge in the area of sports and/or enrichment programmes. This year, all the students who participated in the immersion programme had the chance to play friendly matches with JNMS basketball players. Students also attended various lessons which included Chinese Literature and Chinese Orchestra at Jiangnan Middle School. Besides the stay in Wuxi, students visited places of interest like the Dragonwell Tea Village, West Lake in Hangzhou, the silk factory in Suzhou, and the Oriental Pearl Radio and TV Tower in Shanghai.
